*Valuing the ‘Growth Process’!   

Dr. SAM's Natural Health Newsletter- growth processRewards in life are nice, especially when you work really hard to accomplish something. However, I have often found that the process of what it takes to achieve the goal is just as important (if not more so). The process is where the growth is! For example, I’ve spent MANY hours this year working toward cultivating a garden that would produce some good organic food. Based on the picture you see to the left, this goal has been achieved. Although the food is good, the continual process of what it has taken has been even more nourishing. The “growth process” of the food has been a nice overall growth process as well. I’ve learned many things about myself; and Nature continues to be a great therapeutic laboratory for self-awareness and self-realization.

Growth in life can be challenging, laborious, and very difficult at times! As with gardening, there will be planing and planting that will have to be done; watching and watering when needed; ‘weeds’ you will have to remove; and harvesting at the right times! The rewards, or the ‘fruits of your labor’, will be worth it. However, it’s the growth process where the ‘true value’ may really be! This is where the higher rewards often exist, so be sure to accept and celebrate these gifts as well!



*A Simple Meditation

Dr SAM Natural Health Newsletter - Om MeditationIf you ever wanted a simple way to meditate, try this:

  • Find a comfortable position in a safe, quiet environment free of distractions. Make sure it’s a position in which you will not fall asleep. 
  • Close your eyes. 
  • Allow yourself to breathe easily and deeply to help relax your body.
  • Start chanting “OM” (pronounced Ooohhhmmmm), along with the video track located below. Do not chant too loudly.
  • As you chant “OM”, feel the energy rising from lower part of the body to the top and let go of it through the top of your head. With each chant, you may start feeling lighter and lighter. (Don’t worry, you won’t float away!)

The “OM” is one of the most well known and universal meditation mantras. It is considered the seed sound of creation and causes energy to gather and flow upward and outward. Everything in the universe is pulsating and vibrating, so by chanting “Om”, we are symbolically and physically tuning in to that sound and acknowledging our connection to all other living beings, nature and the universe.Yes, although some people like to joke around about chanting “Om” (sometimes spelled Ohm or AUM), it’s really no joke! It works to bring about relaxation, change, connection, and transformation. Give it a try! Even 5 minutes a day can make a HUGE difference!



*Chai My Tea Recipe

Dr. SAM's Natural Health Newsletter Chai-My-TeaChai My Chai -If you are a tea lover, then you may enjoy this sweet hot treat on a cold day; or chilled for a nice summer treat!

Ingredients (preferably organic):
-10 Medjool dates (.5lb)
-hot water (3 cups)
-½ insides from a fresh vanilla bean (1/2-1tsp of vanilla powder can substitute)
-2 cardamon seeds from fresh pod
-dash of cinnamon and clove

Directions: Heat the water to a point just below boiling, while the water is heating pit the dates and place in the blender. Once hot pour the water over the dates and add all of the other ingredients, blend well. If your using a standard blender you may need to presoak the dates for 4–8 hours in just enough water to cover to obtain a smooth texture.

*Q & A with Dr. SAM

Dr. Samuel A. Mielcarski- physical therapist, speaker, wellness consultant Question: “D.M.” asks: I have a very strong back, but I keep injuring it. Any thoughts?

Answer:  First, I would need to assess you properly in person to give you a better answer. Having a “strong back” is very relative. Strong as compared to what? What positions is your back not strong in? What is the overall quality of the posture and alignment of your body? Do you have proper muscle timing and sequencing? Do you have proper mobility and stability in your trunk, as well as elsewhere in your body? Do you have good overall body awareness? What is your diet and lifestyle? What is the physical demands of your job? Where do you live? What kind of stress do you have in your life right now? How well do you breathe? How hydrated are you on a daily basis? How much sleep do you get? What is significant about your past medical history? In my opinion, these questions should all be considered when figuring out ‘why’ you keep injuring your back?

Here’s my advice: If you can’t get in to  see me, then make a point of scheduling an appointment with another physical therapist or qualified health practitioner that can help you figure out what is going on so you stop injuring yourself!
