I thought this commercial was worth repeating again in this month’s newsletter! Every year, millions of people take millions of dollars of pain medications to cope with pain. However, is this really necessary? Do they really work? Is there a better option? The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) believes there is! Sound Nutritional Advice?
I recently saw this sign at a local gas station! First, I rubbed my eyes and made sure I was seeing things correctly. Then, I had to laugh. Then… well… I almost cried. Then… I said a prayer! Then… I promised myself that I would do all I can to help continue to educate people about how to improve their health!
So, here is a public service announcement: Please DO NOT use the gas station to meet your health and nutrition needs!
*Pineapple Pleaser Recipe
• 2 medium cucumbers (1 lb / 460 g)
• 4 tomatoes (1 lb / 460 g)
• 1⁄2 fresh pineapple (.5 lb / 230 g)
• sun dried pineapple or sun dried tomato (1/2 cup / 30 g)
Directions: Using a mandolin or a hand julienne peeler create long strands of pasta with the cucumber. Dice the remaining core of cucumber, 1/3 tomatoes, and 1⁄2 pineapple tossing all together with the noodles. Blend remaining tomato with the sun dried pineapple for a sweeter flavor or with the sun dried tomato for a more savory sauce.
*Optional: add cilantro for a tropical salsa like taste.

Answer: I think all foods that nourish a person properly are “super foods”. Depending on an individual’s needs, certain foods may be more super at certain times. In other words, a fancy label that has a bunch of marketing hype and cool sounding terminology about foods with ingredients from a foreign or distant land that contain high values of certain nutrients and magical healing powers shouldn’t be the sole factor of what constitutes a food as “super”, or not.
